Kitchen cabinet painting that holds up to daily use

A kitchen update without a full remodel. Cabinets painted properly for homeowners in Yakima, Selah, Moxee, Union Gap and Zillah.

Chapter 01

Why painted cabinets fail

Cabinets live a harder life than walls. Cooking leaves a film of grease that you cannot always see, and paint will not grip it. Hands wear the finish at the handles and pulls, and doors rub at the edges every time they open and close.

When a cabinet paint job peels or chips within a year, the cause is almost always the same: poor adhesion. The coating was applied over a surface that was dirty, glossy or unprimed. The colour is the easy part. The preparation is the job.

How we paint cabinets so the finish bonds

We start by cleaning and degreasing every door, drawer front and frame, paying extra attention to the areas around the stove and the handles. Then the surfaces are scuffed so the primer has something to hold on to. Any dings or open seams are filled and sanded smooth.

Next comes a primer chosen for adhesion, then the finish coats, brushed or sprayed depending on the doors and the room. Doors and drawer fronts are handled carefully throughout, so edges stay crisp and the finish is not marked before it has a chance to settle. The surrounding kitchen is protected while we work.

The same crew that paints your kitchen cabinets can repaint the walls, trim or entryway as well. One Yakima homeowner had us paint the kitchen cabinets and the entryway.

Chapter 03

Aftercare for a finish that lasts

A painted cabinet finish needs time to cure before it takes heavy use, long after it feels dry to the touch. Go easy on the doors and drawers at first, and avoid stacking or slamming until the coating has hardened.

After that, keep cleaning gentle. A soft cloth with mild soap and water handles day to day splashes. Harsh scrubbing and abrasive cleaners wear any painted finish, so skip them. If you have questions about your own kitchen, call us and we will tell you what we would do.

“Again very professional, reasonably priced and great to work with. Painted our kitchen cabinets when we updated and also our entryway. Highly recommend and will call when we have another area that needs painting.”
